Huang Yongyu began his artistic apprenticeship as a 12-year-old working in Chinese porcelain workshops, and he was still painting in the weeks before his death, aged 98, in 2023. The Ponte Vecchio Bridge, painted during a six-month European tour in 1990, presents the Florentine landmark in a new and utterly beguiling light, with its illuminated shops reflected at dusk in the waters of the Arno

This rare limited-edition Faubourg Tropical Birkin 35, from 2022, uses a jungle design introduced a year earlier in Hermès scarves. Crafted from white swift leather and Toile de Camp canvas, it is decorated with images of lush foliage and wildlife — including long-tailed monkeys, and a leopard lounging on a branch — all deftly hand-embroidered in Lunéville stitching for added texture

The Emirati artist Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim painted Sitting Man in 2010. Boldly coloured and unconventionally framed to omit the subject’s head, it is one of a series of similar works derived from a photograph of his mentor and friend, Hassan Sharif. The two were part of a pioneering group of conceptual artists who emerged from the UAE in the late 1980s

Estimate: $10,000-15,000

These two Chinese famille rose ‘peach and bat’ dishes date from the reign of Yongzheng (1723-1735). There are five peaches on the inside of each, and a further three on the outer edge, making a total of eight, a lucky number. The bats in flight are also auspiciously numbered, with three in the dish and two outside, representing wufu — the ‘five blessings’

Estimate: HK$2,400,000-3,800,000
