I learned today there’s a town in New Mexico that used to be named Hot Springs, because of hot springs.

They decided to change their name in 1950 to Truth or Consequences.

This was because the radio show Truth or Consequences had its tenth anniversary, and a contest was held asking a town to rename itself after the show.
