Of all the wonderful mid-century Murano glass, I think the Pulcini (Italian for chick) birds by Alessandro Pianon for Vistosi are the most iconic. Produced in the early 1960s, there are five birds in the series, each in vibrant colours with murrine cane eyes and distinctive wire legs. You may think a lump of glass wouldn't have personality, but each bird is handcrafted and unique, so collectors prize a particularly expressive face. They were made in a relatively small production run, so whether you just want one or a full flock, don't let a Pulcino fly by.
