I’ve been wearing the River Salt Wading Boots II all over Washington lately—from Puget Sound beaches to tiny Cascade blue-line streams to the Yakima on the dry side—and what’s impressed me most is how easily they transition between completely different kinds of water. They drain fast, stay comfortable through long days and don’t get bogged down or heavy. Since I fish beaches a lot, one of the best features for me is how well they keep sand, grit and pebbles out. Once debris gets inside a wading boot, that friction eventually turns into hot spots, chafing and can even abrade your waders. The high collar and adjustable ankle strap do a really good job sealing things up before that becomes a problem. Underfoot, the Vibram® Megagrip soles feel solid on everything from slick river rocks to saltwater coral. The lace system is low profile and snag-free when you’re stripping line around your feet. Most days I’m wearing these with waders, but they’ve also worked great paired with Patagonia Yulex® Wading Socks for lightweight wet wading.
