The Hungarian artist Victor Vasarely was proclaimed the ‘Pope of Op Art’ in 1965, and painted Kezdi the following year. A geometric grid of 289 squares containing circles that diminish in size towards the centre of the canvas, all in meticulously modulated colours, the work has a mysterious glow that appears to shift mesmerically as we view it

This Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring is a truly exceptional treasure. Kashmir sapphires were first discovered in 1881, and the carefully guarded Himalayan mine from which they came was exhausted by 1887, meaning that gem-quality stones are extremely rare. This example is notable not only for its size, weighing more than 16 carats, but also for its sculptural ‘sugarloaf’ cut

Dating from around 1760, this Dutch Delft plaque has a playful trompe l’oeil effect, looking like a cage in which a songbird is perched. Theatrical details abound, from the tasselled ropes that hold back the imaginary curtains to the three gilt-metal finials that top the make-believe cage. Above and below are elegant garden scenes, with a lady alone in one and a courting couple in the other

There is a strong connection between the equestrian world and this limited-edition Hermès Sellier Kelly 25 handbag from‌ 2024‌. Sellier is French for ‘saddler’, and this particular example, hand-stitched from three types of leather, is part of the racecourse-inspired ‘Casaque Etoilée’ collection: the contrasting stripes and rows of pink stars evoke jockeys’ silks
